About The Songs

Mary is at her after-school job at Kipp’s Video Store, rewinding VHS tapes alone in the back room, when Sky Corrigan unexpectedly enters. He is in search of his favorite movie… which also happens to be Mary’s favorite.

Mary exits St. Monica’s chapel when, across the schoolyard, she spots the incredibly cool and confident Sky Corrigan, as if sent from God himself. He holds court with some students eager to learn his hip ways.

At school, Mary and her only friend, the highly enthusiastic but impossibly gawky Helen, stand out front between classes. The principal, Father Ritley, announces Catholic Teenager Magazine’s Let’s Fight Venereal Disease Talent Competition, where the grand prize is the chance to be an extra in a movie with positive moral values. Mary and Helen’s imaginations run wild at the possibility of winning.

Mary is in the schoolyard at St. Monica’s, whispering to and making out with a tree, when Sister Eileen catches her. Embarrassed, Mary runs through a huge set of doors into the school chapel to pray for her heart’s true desire.
